RCTHS

Research Centre for Theory and History of Science

Collaboration with the Ph.D. Programme

The activities of RCTHS are closely linked with the Ph.D. programme entitled “Theory and History of Science and Technology”, which has been at the Department of Philosophy for several years. Being interdisciplinary in nature, this programme includes research related to various philosophically and socially conditioned origins of scientific hypotheses, conceptions and theories. The course of study includes various subjects, such as the theory of science, analysis of science’s social and cultural mission, as well as the history of science and technology. The programme is open not only to graduates of humanities but also to graduate students of mathematics, natural sciences, technology, as well as the medical -oriented MSc programmes. In general, RCTHS is trying to provide gifted doctoral students with support and suitable conditions for their research. This includes financial support and requisite facilities, but also contacts with foreign scholars who are experts in areas relevant to the research subjects of Ph.D. students. RCTHS also arranges for students’ stays at foreign institutions and student exchanges. In the future, RCTHS intends to create a joint Ph.D. programme with some selected foreign institutions. The pursuits of this programme will include exchanges of academic staff and doctoral students.
